01 / THE BUILD

Build a Windows guest from the ground up.

This experiment adds Windows Server to the virtualization learning environment. The notes walk through creating a fresh virtual machine and working through the installation process.

02 / THE BUILD

The virtual hardware is still hardware.

UEFI, boot order, virtual storage, and VirtIO drivers all affect whether an installer can see a disk and boot from it. The setup became a practical introduction to those relationships.

03 / THE BUILD

Make the foundation work first.

The recorded milestone is the installer starting again after boot troubleshooting. Domain services and Active Directory remain possible future experiments, rather than completed features of this build.

THE TAKEAWAYVirtual machines remove the physical chassis, but they do not remove the need to understand boot and storage.

STILL CURIOUS

What’s next?

Complete and verify the installation before expanding into server roles.
