STORAGE / BUILD STORY
RunningZedFiles.
A small container. A much bigger file cabinet.
01 / THE BUILD
Give shared files a home.
ZedFiles separates the file-sharing service from the data it serves. Debian and Samba run inside a small Proxmox container, while a separate drive holds the shared media.
02 / THE BUILD
A useful storage distinction.
The container was allocated 8 GB for its operating system and software. That is separate from the 3 TB media drive, which Linux displays at roughly 2.7 TB. Keeping those roles separate makes the storage layout easier to understand.
03 / THE BUILD
Part of the media workflow.
The build notes document adding files to the shared folders and testing how the media services see them. Permissions, library scanning, and the difference between an application’s disk and its data all became practical lessons.
THE TAKEAWAYA small service disk does not mean a small file share. The operating system and the data have different jobs.
STILL CURIOUS
What’s next?
Keep refining the file workflow and how its health appears in ZedMon.
